Nob Bikers?
I recently got an email asking whether or not I could come up with a Nob Biker list aimed at essentially guaranteeing a victory in a single scenario, whilst also being strong in the others. After about 30 minutes of trials, and a few tweaks, I've managed to come up with the following;
HQ:
Ork Warboss - 140pts
-
Warbike
-
Cybork Body
-
Power Klaw
-
Boss Pole
Ork Warboss - 140pts
-
Warbike
-
Cybork Body
-
Power Klaw
-
Boss Pole
Troops:
Ork Nob Squad - 570pts
-
7 Models
-
Waaagh Banner
-
Painboy
-
7x Power Klaw
-
7x Warbike
-
7x Cybork Body
Ork Nob Squad - 645pts
-
8 Models
-
Waaagh Banner
-
Painboy
-
8x Power Klaw
-
8x Warbike
-
8x Cybork Body
The list is aimed at ensuring a victory in 'Annihilation' scenario's. The list only gives away 4 kill points in total, but has more than enough killing potential to get a solid few kill points under its belt, before it simply turbo boosts away and avoids the enemy.
Where does the list suffer? Ordnance. Anything sporting STR10 becomes an issue, as with STR8 weapons you can simply allocate the wounds onto the warboss to avoid losing a Nob Biker to instant death. The Waaagh banners are also crucial, ensuring that Nob bikers make the most of out their attacks, by hitting 3/4 attacks on average.

The Great Devourer - The Build Up!
Well, its been an eventful few weeks. Namely, I've now managed to reach 70 victories in row!! I'm aiming for 100, but this may be a little bit ambitious depending on how the 'Great Devourer' tournament goes in March, which brings me onto the main reason for this post.
'The Great Devourer' is a young tournament, boasting a rough attendance of 500 gamers, spread throughout WHFB, WH40K and LoTR, this is the largest tournament of its kind held in the UK. The points limit for the WH40K side of things is 1750, hence my previous post questioning if this will become a more common sight across the tournament scene.
Moving on! I have some reservations about the tournament. After recently contacting the organisers, it seems they were not familiar with the 'GT House Rules' packs that are available, nor were they planning to enforce any official Errata documents. After a chat over the phone, they are now going to review the tournaments structure and consider some amendments. On a serious note, I do have some concerns about the tournament, and will most likely end up offering some form of assistance on the day.
So, thats covered now! Moving onto the main event... The list I am planning to take to the tournament is listed below. I've taken a great amount of time in working out how it will perform against different units, and various list types I am likely to find at 1750, and can safely say I feel confident in how it will perform. I'll be posting pictures up shortly documenting the armies progress as I embark on the painting side of things.... (yawn!! lol).

Changes ahead?
Since 5th Edition we have seen a number of changes to the game we all love, Warhammer 40000.
5th Edition has taken aspects back from 2nd Edition, and merged them into the more developed 4th Edition, creating a rather balanced system. However, for a long time the standard tournament limit has been 1500pts in the European scene, and 1850pts across the pond in America. It now seems a change is coming, in that some tournaments such as "The Great Devourer" have adopted 1750pts, and due to this there has been a significant rise in games being played this points level.
The question I put forward here, is does 1750 offer a better gaming experience, with a more balanced outcome than 1500 or 1850? I can see the potential for longer, more tactical games at 1750, however I can also see this opening a window to creating more unbalanced army lists in the tournament scene.
Lets take a look at how one of the top tier army lists that may be affected.
Example: "Lash Spam"
HQ:
Daemon Prince w/ MoS, Wings, Lash of Submission
Daemon Prince w/ MoS, Wings, Lash of Submission
Troops:
10x Plague Marines, 2x Plasma Gun
10x Plague Marines, 2x Plasma Gun
2x Rhino w/ Combi Melta.
Heavy Support:
3x Obliterators
3x Obliterators
1x Vindicator
Total: 1495
Currently this list is solid. You have enough Anti-Tank to take care of any serious armoured threats, whilst also having plenty of anti-infantry power. Now, add in an extra 250 pts and you could potentially be looking at a further 10 plague marines with 2 melta guns, meaning you are now facing 30! The possibilities are endless...
So, what do we think? is 1750pts the saviour of tournament play in 5th Edition, or does 1500pts still 'float the boat'?

The Rebirth of the D6 Curse.
Its been a long time since I've posted here, however I feel its time to revive the only beauty and spread my thoughts across the abyss of the Internet.
Recently I have become heavily involved in increasing my painting ability and so far i'm happy with the results. I'm now able confidently say I am able to pull off the following techniques to a level I am happy with;
- NMM
- Oxidised Metals
- Rust
- Wet Blending
- Chipped Armour
- Progressive Glazing
- OSL (Only on small sources, I've not tried a whole model yet
Since my last post I was due to go to the GT, unfortunately however I was being tested for cancer at the time so had to cancel! I have also now abandoned the Eldar project as it was simply not enthralling on any level what so ever.
In light of this I have now moved onto doing a World Eaters / Khorne army, which I am enjoying the most since I first started the WH40K hobby over 17 years ago. I'll be posting an update soon with an army list, and hopefully some pictures of the models!

The GT approaches...
Long time for an update! Been massively busy with play testing different armies and generally working out which will be the most practical to take to this years GT. After much deliberation I have gone with Eldar! The gorgeous models allows for some truly brilliant freehand to be done, and as well know, mech eldar is one of the hardest lists to beat, even since the 5th Edition skimmer nerf.
I've been asked how I normally go about making my tournament lists, well i'm going to try and bullet some of the key points I go over each time, with the hope that it will help people in future!
- Opponents armies. What do you expect to see? Your list must stand a good chance at dealing with Nidzilla, Horde MEqs, Green Tide and Tau Fish of Fury. A lot of the lists at GT's often revolve around these "Internet lists", with small modifications so that players can call it their own!
- Playing Speed. How quick can you cover 18" with 2 units? 40k has always revolved around 18 inch "circles of influence", as it means most units cannot charge you in their following turn, and will only jsut be in rapid fire range.
- Model Count. Like it or not, this DOES make a difference. If you come across any army aimed at producing a high volume of shots, and you are using a low model count army, you WILL die.
- Psycological Influences. No-one at a GT will look at a Nidzilla army and go "aww, cute carnifex", everyone is intimidated by what they can do, same goes for Wraithlords. Sometimes it is worth putting large targets in your army, purely for the psycological aspect to aid in altering your opponents battle plan.
Taking the above into account, they form a good thought process when building any Warhammer 40000 army list, or at least, they haven't failed me yet!
In my next post, I will be posting the Eldar list I am aiming to take to GT Heat 2 this year, feel free to post any comments, or ask questions!

Commission - Tzeentch Terminator Lord
One thing I did enjoy about this mini was definitely painting the blue, it had been a long time since I'd stepped into the realms of painting a blue orientated miniature, and i thoroughly enjoyed it!
